Trip 24601 update: Belfast

We have just returned from watching an ice hockey match in Belfast! It was really fun, something not very familiar to South Africans! The pictures below show the first 3 stops we made being: Oxford, Cambridge and Norwich/ Bungay.

The most recent pics are first! Tonight is our last evening in Belfast before flying across to edinburgh in the morning. More pics from Anfield (yawn... GO Chelsea) etc. will be posted as soon as possible!

After Cambridge it was on to Norwich and Bungay. The Friday was spent exploring sights in Norwich such as the Cathedral and Castle. We were fortunate to have a brilliant tour guide on-hand who also spoilt us rotten! Thanks Grant:) Then on Saturday it was off to the football!! GO CANARIES! (The nickname for Norwich City FC). The game was brilliant! In the end, we saw 4 goals, all by the Canaries, which being a home game, made the atmosphere in the stadium electric. The end result was Norwich 4 - Barnsley 0. Above is a photo of us in our war paint. Another Tim, Grant and Christene Nurden's son, is in the middle.
This is your captain speaking: This is my (Lovat's) first post! On we zoomed from the football match to Bungay! Wine, wine and a bit of amazing food kept the football celebrations going! Thanks Rowan and Jenny for putting up with us! Tim impressed on the tennis court! (seriously...) And swimming was awesome in an indoor pool! Oh and the pic of the castle ruins at Jenny's is 600+ years old and look flipping awesome!

This is a picture of the Cam river which we had our first punting experience on. It was a good work out! It was fun to have walked the streets of Cambridge a bit before getting on a river because we were able to see many of the University Colleges from both sides. It truly was beautiful, and the weather played along for us too! The only not-so-nice thing was the fact that the punter lost all feeling in his hands after about 5 minutes! Fortuently, a warm pub was nearby which we arrived at as the sun was setting. The third picture of the Cambridge batch above is of the 3 punters (Tim's cousin Jane is in the middle).

We have been rather blessed with (partly) sunny weather in most of the places we visited. The first day in Oxford was beautiful and we climbed to the top of St Mary the Virgin Church to get take some photos of the view of Oxford, 3 of which are above. (The second day in Oxford was wet, cold and very misty - more typical we were told)

The trip (24601) has begun!

Finally the time we have been waiting for has arrived!

The trip has been "code-named" 24601! If you would like to know the significance of that number, brush up on your West End Theatre knowledge! First person to crack it when we get back to SA may well win a prize!! (Lovat came up with the name)

We are now in Oxford, seeing family of Tim's and checking out a University town dating back almost 1000 years! Lovat and I are having a grand time, and know that this is just a taste of what's to come!!

There will be more pics as we go along, as well as photos!

Cheers,
The wandering lads.

correction

That population line was meant to be < 100 people live in the village of postling - very peaceful place!

Below are pictures of Tower Bridge, a couple of views from the top of St Paul's and the house we stayed in, which is in the village of Postling (population <>

Hey all,

Been frantically busy in London - see why most people behave the way they do in a generally un-friendly manner. It's all go go go!!

Lovat and I are working at a restaurant in Trafulgar Sqaure called the Texan Embassy Cantina (Check it out at texanembassy.com). Sam decided to move down to Canterbury area to start looking for a proper make-up job. So for the next few weeks it's going to be all about working looong hours to save up for the 3 week trip around the UK in January!

I have put up some pics of a few attractions so far... watch this space for more in future.
Regards to all back home,
Tim, Sam and Lovat

We have Arrived

After more than 24 hours of travelling we have arrived in a very cold and wet London. For Sam and Tim it was exciting to ride on the Tube for the first time!!

We spent the first day setting up our bank accounts and getting settled in (briefly) before setting off to Trafulgar Square. En route we bought some traditonal English food - fried chicken (well, maybe not so English). In Trafulgar Square we found the place we will potentially be working. We will hopefully find out by Sunday evening if we have the job or not!

After that, we got onto the wrong train, trying to get to Sam's aunt and uncle in Sandling (near Canterbury). We spent last night here in Sandling, where the first update of this blog is taking place from:)

We ended up in Ashford, where we were picked up and driven back to Sandling. London is massive, and the cultures diverse. We are having to learn the systems quickly, like having to stand on the right of escalators because people run up them on the left.

We are hoping to do some exploring around Canterbury today and get down to Dover before returning to London tomorrow. We thank God for looking over us thus far!
